Why IGP Ochola reshuffled Masaka Police Bosses

Inspector General of Police Martins Okoth Ochola reshuffled police bosses in Masaka Region. Some Police officers have also been ordered to report to Police Professional Standerds Unit, to be investigated over neglect of duty and incompetence.

According to letter our reporter has seen, the affected officers have also been ordered to handover their offices immediately. Those supposed to report to the Police Professional Standards Unit include D/ASP Samson Higenyi from Lwengo district is reverted to General Duties and pending investigation by PSU, D/ASP Charles Ndamanyire from G/Msk is transfered to HRM HDQTRS pending investigation, ASP Sowedi from Bukomansimbi to HRM HQTRS pending investigations among others officers.

Other transferred officers include ASP Penninah Migimbe from Kalangala to Lwengo as OC traffic, ASP Moses Kakiryo from Jinja East Division to Busia as DPC, SP David Katunda Nyesigire from Ntoroko to Masaka as DPC, SP Jamala Kayesigye from Jinja East Kakira to Lyantonde as DPC, among others.

Security Sources told Entebbe Post that all these transfers and appointments came as a result of the Director of Operation the Force D/IGP Edward Ochom storming in greater Masaka, discovering that some police officers had neglected duty. Ochom visited greater Masaka Policing area recent after a Boda boda cyclist identified as Hasan Walugembe burnt himself in the traffic department and died instantly.

Ochom called a crisis meeting with some leaders from the boda boda fraternity within the area, promised the riders to discipline all officers who involved in the act.

Hassan Walugembe’s death led to the dismissal of two police officers. Other officers including the Masaka DPC Bosco Bakashaba, OC CID Erias Bairuka, Officer in charge of Operation and Oc incharge Nyendo Police Station ASP Denis Kanakulya were ordered to report to the Police Professional Standards Unit for further investigations.

During the Lockdown, a renowned Journalist within the region also reportedly stormed a roadblock on the Masaka Kyotera highway, caused the arrest of several officers who were extorting money from travelers at night.

The army was dismayed by the act which was blamed on the Officer in Charge of Masaka Central Police Station Erias Bairuki who is reported to have been responsible for the the act.

The ammoured Brigade engaged Police leadership in Kampala and Masaka to ensure discipline is ensured amongst all officers.

IGP Ochola replaced the commanders with new entrants led by SP David Katungi as Masaka DPC.
