Video: MPs mock Minister Kasolo for failing to express self in English in Parliament
Several Members of Parliament have slammed the Minister of State in Charge of Micro Finance Kyeyune Haruna Kasolo for failing to read a report of the committee of the whole house.
Kasolo had been invited to communicate to the house the status of the Microfinance and Deposit Taking Institutions bill 2022 which falls directly in his docket.
However, the Minister failed to read that; “I beg to report that the committee of the whole house considered the Microfinance and Deposit taking Institutions bill 2022 and passed with amendments,” forcing the Speaker Anitah Among to ask the Minister to repeat after her.
The whole house busted into laughter wondering how a Minister could fail to read a twenty word statement.
However, MPs wondered if a Minister who fails to read such a statement can easily manage a Ministry with all documents written in English.
Kasolo, formerly Kyotera county MP has been holding the Portfolio for the past seven years.
Well as the bill was passed several MPs especially from the opposition side wondered if the Minister can easily grasp policy statements in his Ministry and offer key strategic guidance to the docket.
“How can you fail to read something you are looking at? If it is not being unserious, you are then not cognizant with the affairs of the institutions you lead. We must be thorough when we are given positions of power,” an MP that asked not to be named told this website.
Kasolo who seemed disgraced by the failure to articulate in the country’s official language as several of the MPs mocked him. He has not made a statement on the matter since its happening.
