UNRA takes over Centenary Park for Jinja Expressway construction

Businesses at the Centenary Park along Jinja road in Kampala will today be evicted and land handed over to government to pave way for construction of the Jinja Expressway.

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director, Dorothy Kisaka in a letter to Nalongo Estates that manages the property says President Yoweri Museveni ordered the land to be handed over government for the construction of the expressway to commence.

“His Excellency the President directed that the land surveyed and demarcated at Centenary Park for the Jinja Expressway should be immediately handed over to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) to enable the commencement of work,” part of the letter reads in part.

Kisaka also informed the commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police SCP Moses Kafeero to deploy officers at the site to ensure a peaceful handover.

The land has been under the management of Sarah Kizito, the owner of Nalongo Estates. She is also wife to former Kampala Central Division Mayor Godfrey Nyakaana.
