Turkish businessman supports Football in Uganda

SEMBABULE. Mr Mehmet Ihisan Kalkan from Istanbul Turkey a business man has moved to support co –curricular football activities in Mateete Sub County, Sembabule district.

He has been supporting Mateete football club with Jerseys, boots, goal nets, cones and other training kits. The support aims to turn Mateete football club from amateur into a professional team by 2022.

“We aim at professionalizing the team and developing talents of the young sports men by equipping team with per-requisites and necessary requirements,” He said

He also organized an eid tournament for the people of Mateete Sub County as part of his efforts to develop football within the area.

The tournament which attracted over 12 teams, under the stewardship of Mr William Tumusiime who fully steered the tournament ran for two months.

“We intend to develop and implement a five strategic plan with a lot of activities which includes the marketing of our local players to the international market,” He said

Teams which participated include among others; Mobile money team, Teachers, Truck drivers, Farmers, Mechanics, Dancer, Butcher men,. Boda boda riders, Groceries, Traders, Civil servants, and Police FC

Mr WilliamTumusiime who led the tournament organizing team noted that teachers won and they were awarded with a Trophy and money. Then the rest up to the fourth position were awarded Cash prizes.

According to Mr Ivan Mugasha, one of the retired footballers in Mateete, such initiatives will develop talents and see young people grow in talents and benefit from them.

“We have a lot of talents in villages which are not exploited but initiatives will be of importance to talent such and development and within few years we shall be sending people to national team and international level, “He said  

Sembabule is one of rural districts in Uganda where co –curricular activities are not considered to be important. Talented boys and girls barely get a chance to fully utilize their talents and it’s a representation of over 80 percent of other rural districts in Uganda.
