Titus Tugume takes Taekwondo and kickboxing to UPDAF

Three time World Kickboxing Federation National Super Medal weight Champion Titus Tugume has introduced Taekwondo and kickboxing to the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF).

Mr Tugume who made a presentation alongside other taekwondo players during a belated 39th joint SFC and Uganda People’s Defence Air Forces Tarehe Sita celebrations in Entebbe on at the UPDAF base said the initiative is a collaboration with the South Korean embassy and UPDF.

Sgt Tugume told Entebbe Post during the celebrations said there is need for people to learn the sport since it skills them in self defence against any attackers.

Tugume further said Taekwondo can help youths earn a living from Taekwondo and kick boxing as sportsmen.

 Tugume said he is going to recruit youths who are interested in the sport and start training them even though they are not serving officers of the army after which they will be taken for training and recruited into the army but keep on participating in the martial arts game for the army.

He said taekwondo competitions will be set up around the country which will enable trainees attain more skills while competing in the sport that will help propel the sport to a higher level and acknowledgement across the country.
