Ssekigozi calls for infrastructural development to enhance youth sports

Former Busiro South MP contestant and businessman Stephen Ssekigozi has called on government to protect and develop sports fields across the country which are increasingly under threat from developers in a bid to enhance youth sports

Ssekigozi made the call during the finals of the Kitala Ward sports tournament which he funded and had matches played at the different playgrounds in Mpala, Kitala and Lyamutundwe zones where Team Bivamuntuuyo emerged as the 2024 champions to take home the trophy, a bull and set of jerseys.

Bivamuntuuyo recovered from a goal down to out-wit their opponents Mazowezo 6-7 in post-match penalties after normal time ended 1 goal apiece before hundreds of passionate supporters.

In the curtain-raiser match, Katabi Councillors edged the Kajjansi Councillors 3-2 in a thrilling game.

The tournament that attracted 9 teams had matches played at different playgrounds such as Nkumba Kataka playground, Mpala parish Catholic Church playground, Kanywa (Garuga) among others with the climax taking place on Sunday at the Nkumba Kataka playground.

Speaking after the final match, Ssekigozi noted the need to organize such football tournaments as a platform identify talent and nature them to professional levels.

“I am extremely grateful for whoever has had a role to see that we organize a successful tournament. I want to single out the local organizing committee, team managers, area leaders, players and fans in general for the respective duties executed. Such talents are helpful because they help to identify and groom talents of players” Ssekigozi remarked.

Each of the 9 participating teams was rewarded with a set of jerseys.
