Special flight organised for Americans to leave Uganda today

Even after President Museveni issued a directive for the lock-down of Entebbe airport against all passenger flights in a bid to control the spread of Coronavirus disease, a special flight has been arranged for American citizens who are willing to leave Uganda.

A statement issued by the US embassy to American citizens in Uganda, confirms availability of seats on a commercial flight with Qatar Airways from Entebbe to Doha, on Wednesday, March 25 with an estimated departure time of 3pm.

“We thank the government of Uganda for working with us to arrange this option for American citizens who desire to return home. Please contact Qatar Airways at their Uganda call center at +256 417 800 900 or at +256 417 800 903 to express interest in this flight. At this time, the call center is collecting information on those interested in the flight,” reads the statement.

However, the same communication exonerates the U.S government from funding the flight, saying, availability and cancellations are controlled by Qatar Airways.

“Currently, this is the only remaining way to exit Uganda after March 22. While an additional flight may be added depending on demand, at this time this is the only flight available. If you need to leave Uganda, consider contacting Qatar Airways as soon as possible about this flight,” implored the U.S embassy to American citizens in Uganda.

Several Americans have been seen at Entebbe airport, waiting to board the chartered plane, due to take off at 15:00hrs. A source at the airport intimated that, another flight is being organised for British citizens living in Uganda. “They’re also expected to board tonight,” confided a source.
