The Family of Rally Driver and proprietor of East African University, Hassan Alwi, are reported to have drowned in an accident on River Nile.
According to an official statement from Uganda Police Force, Hassan Alwi’s wife Shakirah Kawesa, and one their daughters Amirror Alwi perished when their boat experienced engine failure and cruised through spillways of River Nile.
Although the police claim that Hassan Alwi drowned with the family, reports from different sources maintain that he is alive, and getting treatment for an injury on the head.
The reports from Eskom Uganda Ltd, also maintain that the boat that had Alwi’s family (Four members) experienced engine failure on River Nile, and sailed helplessly towards massive pressured spillways that hit it and plunged all those that were on board.
The boat also had a tour guide, and another member of Alwi’s family named as Jafalu Alwi, aged 12 years.
Furthermore, in an endeavor to rescue the family, a lone boat pursued but was also hit by the spillways. It had one person aboard.
According to accessible reports, the person who was aboard the lone boat was rescued in a UPDF marine operation as well as the tour guide who was aboard the family boat and one of Alwi’s daughters (Jafalu).
