President Museveni skips key UN General Assembly again

President Museveni has yet again skipped the United Nations General Assembly again.

The Uinted Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the UN. It comprises of all Member States, provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter of the United Nations.

However, President Yoweri Museveni has for a number of times skipped taking part physically in the deliberations of the United Nations.

Severally the President impartiality of the UN for not attention.

However, the current ongoing session of the United Nations has also been skipped by President Museveni who sent the Vice President, Major Jessica Alupo, Foreign Affairs Minister Jeje Odong, Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba and the Ugandan Permanent Representative at the UN Adonia Ayebare.

Ugandan Journalist based in the United States Remmy Bahati wrote on her Twitter platform that “Once again, President Museveni has decided not to attend the 78th UNGA session where world leaders are discussing progress on the SDGs and other global issues,” She said.

Bahati added that, This decision, and the fact that representatives were sent instead, “implies a lack of political willingness to work with other countries to tackle these issues. Additionally, it highlights Uganda’s position on the importance of the SDGs.”

“An investigation could delve into whether this decision is related to the bribery scandal involving Sam Kuteesa and the UN – A smart journalist has a story!” Bahati said.

Government has not offered an official position as yet on why the President skipped the UN General Assembly yet again.
