Pope Francis has named Luweero Diocese Bishop Paul Ssemogerere as the acting Apostolic Admistrator for Kampala Archdiocese.
The Pope, through is representative in Uganda, Pope Nuncio, Archbishop Luigi Bianco while delivering Pope Francis’s message at the funeral of Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
Ssemogerere will act until Pope Francis names a new Archbishop of Kampala. He will take on all Apostolic duties that were handled by the late archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga.
Lwanga, who died on Saturday last week will be buried today inside Rubaga Cathedral.
He succumbed to heart related diseases, according to a postmortem report read to mourners on Monday.
Ssemogerere is a Roman Catholic prelate who currently heads the Kasana Luweero diocese.
He was born in Kisubi, Wakiso District and studied at St Maria Goretti Katende, before heading to a Seminary and later ordination.
