Police in Mbarara mounts checkpoints ahead of NUP Manifesto launch

Reports from Mbarara City indicate that Police has deployed heavily and installed several checkpoints on all major entry points of the city ahead of National Unity Platform(NUP) Manifesto launch on Saturday.
Several stalwarts of the NUP including Presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine are expected to make the trip to Ntugamo District to send off Dr Anas Abdul Kariisa today and are expected to remain in the west until the manifesto launch on Saturday.
All travelers heading to Western City of Mbarara are required to identify selves and disclose their intent for the visit upon entry.
The Manifesto launch still hangs in balance after several hotel owners distanced themselves from the idea of hosting the event and are left with minimal hopes of securing a suitable venue for the event.
However Mbarara Deputy Resident City Commissioner Emmy Katera Turyabagyenyi has noted that the event will only be permitted if the NUP satisfy all requirements for holding such a gathering amidst COVID-19.
