Panicky Ssewungu, Kamaadi plead with voters for new political mandate
When you find politicians in Kampala speaking all over, you may think they are Kingpins in their constituencies. However, it is the automatic inverse in Kalungu District.
The Kalungu West Member of Parliament Joseph Gonzaga Ssewungu is struggling with the acquisition of a new mandate.
Voters within Kalungu have called off their quest for a new term as leaders. Instead, both Kalungu West MP Ssewungu and the District Chairperson Nyombi Kamaadi are now struggling, pleading with voters, to offer a new mandate.
In one of the audios Entebbe Post has obtained, the District Chairperson Nyombi Kamaadi is heard pleading with one of the political influencers Charles Mutebi, crying for further support.
“What did we do wrong. I and Ssewungu still need you as one of our lead campaigners. Please forgive. We work together again for a new beginning,” he said.
In the audio, Kamaadi is also heard acknowledging how voters are currently shunning both the Chairperson, Kamaadi, and Ssewungu, who they say are becoming unproductive for the District and the wider population.
While expressing himself, Kamaadi literally cried over the phone call with the leading, popular councilor in Kalungu (Mutebi) over his perceived failures, which he (Kamaadi) said would lead to his and Ssewungu’s loss.
A sample held by this website indicates that both Kamaadi and Ssewungu have an insurmountable task of luring voters if they are to be voted again come 2026.
Ssewungu previously had indicated that he would not return into elective politics come 2026. However, the three time MP changed his mind and now, with low hopes, would want to contest again for the same slot.
He, however, faces an uphill task of facing off with Ssemakula Ismael, a lawyer and real estate developer based in Kampala. Ssemakula is also a leading candidate in the race. Ssemakula has for long been engaging in humanitarian work, leaving Ssewungu wondering if he could stand a chance of returning to Parliament.
