Opposition MPs endorse Kadaga for speaker

Members of the opposition led by FDC’s Dokolo woman MP Cecilia Ogwal have castigated the NRM for fighting speaker Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga and wanting to replace her with her deputy Jacob Oulanyah in the 11th parliament.

The opposition members  who included five NUP elects, John Baptist Nambashe (Manjiya County), Orishabe Patrick Nsamba ( Kasanda North), Bashir Kazibwe Mbazira (Kawempe South) and Joyce Bagala (Mityana Woman)accused the party of double standards.

The Opposition said NRM ring fenced the position of Vice Chairman Moses Kigongo but have continuously refused to ring fence the speakership for Kadaga.

The NUP members were among the 65 MPs who showed support to the incumbent Rebecca Kadaga as she launched her bid for a third term as Parliament speaker at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Wednesday which attracted both NRM and members of the opposition.

During the event, Kadaga said she has the support of many MPs because she has been a unifying factor in parliament offering the chance to every Member of Parliament irrespective of their parties to contribute.
