Mobile money thieves struck Garuga again, Police set to beef Security.
One person was shot dead and another badly injured in a mobile money robbery on Thursday night in Garuga- Kitala off Entebbe Road in Katabi town Council, Wakiso District.
Unidentified Armed Men attacked a couple Joseph Kansongote and Irene Namaja that maintain a mobile money shop in Kitala together with their friend now deceased Isaac Ssebina on a motor-bike a few metres from their shop; and demanded Irene to surrender her purse which she did.
Ssebina and Kasongote (who is still fighting for his life at Kisubi Hospital) were shot at by robbers for trying to stage a confrontation, Irene was left with no physical injuries.
The thieves made away with about only UGX 200,000, and this was their second raid on the same Mobile Money shop in a space of 2 months.
The locals blame the raging petty theft and major attacks on the nature of the area being sandwiched between a swamp and a yet to be developed estate, making it hard to ensure security.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Assistant Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said that they are still investigating the matter.
