NRM, NUP District Chairpersons appoint opposing party loyalists to their Executives

The National Unity Platform LCV Chairperson for Mukono District Rev Peter Bakaluba Mukasa and his Lwengo NRM counterpart Ibrahim Kitatta AL Malik have hand-picked councilors from opposite parties to serve with them in the District Executives.

Bakaluba picked Asuman Muhumuza from the National Resistance Movement as his vice chairperson while Kitatta picked Isa Bukenya of the NUP as his secretary for Gender and rallied councilors to vote Berna Nabakka as the Deputy Speaker.

Well as the act of Mr Bakaluba appointing an NRM vice chairperson was seen by several social media pundits as irrational, Bakaluba said he would work well with all people to deliver services to the people of Mukono.

Kitatta on the other hand said leading a District has never been a party affair and thus would choose competence to move the district forward.

“We shall do whatever is within our means to unite our district and move as one irrespective of our different religions, tribes, political parties and everything else that may be between us as a people,” Kitatta said.

Both Kitatta and Bakaluba have both previously belonged to the National Resistance Movement. Bakaluba however left the party towards the election period, acquiring the NUP party ticket to win Mukono Leadership.

Bakaluba was recently forced to apologize before NUP Party leaders in Mukono as he rallied several of the NUP party councilors to go, meet the president.

Bakaluba insisted, he will have to work with the National Resistance Movement as part of his efforts to deliver services to the people in Mukono District.
