Nambooze, Tumukunde meeting Sparks Controversy in People Power

Several People Power youths in Mukono have condemned Mukono Municipality Member of Parliament Betty Nambooze Bakireke over her “inconsistence and malicious trading with different Presidential Candidates” in disregard of loyalty to one party or candidate.

The outrage stems from the recent meeting between Betty Nambooze and Presidential Candidate Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde that took place at Sama Gardens, along Jinja road in Mukono Municipality on Saturday.

Nambooze, together with a host of Democratic Party and People Power Supporters including Lukeman Ssegayi, Goma Division Chairpeson Erisa Nkoyooyo and Namayengo Lydia saw Nambooze allegedly pledging loyalty towards Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde,, backing his Presidential bid.

Nambooze had before pledged allegiance to FDC and the National Unity Platform. She last week pledged to People Power Principal Robert Kyagulanyi on how she would support him for Presidency, in a meeting held at her residence in Mukono.

“She is behaving as if she is on market. All the people she went with were given Ugx 1 million each while she received a slightly higher amount to support Tumukunde. We demand to know if she is on trade such that we know how to operate with her,” Richard Lugoloobi, one of the People Power Supporters told Entebbe Post.

It is not clear whether Nambooze will pick any Party card in the forth coming elections. Her Party, the Democratic Party has already identified current Mukono Municipality Mayor Fred Kagimu to replace her.

She is Currently hobnobbing with both People Power and FDC for support.

“All she wants is to have candidates within the lower local government seats in Mukono remain loyal to her but, she believes she would be independent to avoid party affiliations.” A source close to Nambooze indicated.

When contacted, Nambooze refused to comment on the Saturday meeting with Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde.
