Nakawa Businessman burnt to death in Entebbe over illegal land eviction

Tom Odaka, a resident of Kyanja, said to be in his early 50s has been burnt to death by residents in Bwerenga, Katabi town Council, Entebbe sub district.

Odaka is said to have bought land approximately 60 acres in the area with incumbrance.

He later moved to evict all bibanja holders on the said land without due legal process.

On Friday evening, Odaka moved to the area with a host of Police officers and a grader to evict the residents.

“However, the officers were overpowered and residents burnt the Tycoon’s car, a Toyota land cruiser. He was later rushed to Kisubi Hospital where he was later pronounced dead,” one of the eye witnesses who asked not to be named said.

Police in Entebbe is currently investigating the circumstances that led to the burning of Odaka.

Entebbe Post reached out to Kisubi and Entebbe Police stations and the officers denied knowledge of any deployment in the areas.

However one of the close relatives of the deceased intimated that Odaka sought permission from the Regional Police Commander in Katwe, only identified as Acharia.
