Museveni supporters fault Covid 19 guidelines as police looks on

Police on Monday afternoon looked on as several supporters of NRM’s Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni made drives through different towns across the country, without following the Covid 19 standard operating procedures as President Yoweri Museveni got nominated.

Mr. Museveni was nominated at 10.00 am today at Kyambogo, where the electoral commission instituted a temporary nomination center.

As Museveni was nominated, several of his supporters provoked opposition supporters and Police with drives in the different cities in major towns in Uganda.

In Bwaise, a Kampala suburb, People Power supporters were forced into a brawl with NRM supporters, in front of Police personnel after the NRM supporters engaged in a procession thanking Museveni for his leadership without following the standard operating procedures.

Similar brawls happened at the interception between Jinja and Kampala road in the central business district has three NRM supporters moved, playing loud music praising President Yoweri Museveni after nomination. The three encountered angry taxi drivers who immediately started a fight. Nearby Police didn’t interfere as the brawl took on.

In Mukono, a procession through the municipality, to Uganda Cristian University and later to the District and Mukono Police headquarters was ensured without knowledge of the homeland law and order enforcement agency, faulting the standard operating procedures.

In Mbale, NRM leaders, led by the NRM CEC member and Mbale City NRM flag bearer Lydia wanyoto and RDC Baraza Oganjo led a group of NRM members to hold a procession within Mbale town, thanking God for the blessing of their National chairperson Yoweri Museveni.

As such violations ensured, Police and its sister agencies barred Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde from holding a procession to Kyambogo for nomination with a handful of supporters.

“It now remains unclear if the NRM chaps will follow the guidelines to ensure that there is leveled Political ground. Other candidates including the leading opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu will be nominated on Tuesday.

However, Police has already condoned off the National Unity Platform a party headquarter for the Kyagulanyi candidacy.

Last week, Kampala Metropolitan traffic police commander Norman Musinga issued guidelines to be followed by candidates for nomination. However, a handful have been followed.
