Minister Jim Muhwezi to Ugandans: Leave me alone
Minister for security Jim Katugugu Muhwezi has asked Ugandans to leave him alone as he continues with National duty in the vehicle monitoring program.
Muhwezi has been speaking to Radio CBS FM during the “Nze nga bwendaba” slot in the Radios Prime News on the vehicle tracking system launched.
Ever since a Russian company, Joint Stock Company Global Security was awarded a 10-year contract to install digital monitoring system in all motorcycles and vehicles in Uganda, it has been reaveled that the company is facing bankruptcy litigation in Moscow, Russia.
The company is also facing other debt-related cases filed between 2019 and 2021 in Russia, raising questions of whether the contract in Uganda is a lifeline the company needs to beat off bankruptcy litigation for its very survival, and whether government of Uganda did adequate due diligence before engaging Global Security.
However, in an interview with CBS’s Alex Nsubuga, Minister Jim Muhwezi who first blamed previous government officials for the contract and deliberations to have the Russian company said Ugandans are only good at talking and “for us, we shall keep working,” He said.
He also said the Attorney General Mr. Kiryowa Kiwanuka read the agreements on his behalf and approved the contractual obligations of both the Ugandan government and the Russian Company.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, days after the shooting of Gen Katumba Wamala, his daughter and driver reinvigorated the need to have digital tracking systems in all vehicles and motorcycles in the country.
Museveni had first ordered the introduction of such digital tracking devices in 2018.
