Military presence increased in Kyambogo ahead of the Kyagulanyi nomination

There is a slight increase of the Military Police and the sister military agencies in Kyambogo ahead of the nomination of the leading opposition candidate Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.

Kyagulanyi is set to appear before the electoral Commission at 10.00 am today for nomination as a Presidential Candidate.

His immediate opponent, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was nominated on Monday morning.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told the media last week that the institution will deal with any person who engages in the violation of the set Standard Operating Procedures helping to regulate the Corona Virus spread during the election season.

Places such as Kireka, Namboole, Banda, Kyambogo and Nakawa now are heavily deployed with military Police and several military vehicles making rounds within the vicinity of the nomination center in Kyambogo.

Yesterday, a host of NRM supporters violated the SOPs when they conducted drives and rallies after the Museveni nomination.

Police and the sister agencies reluctantly refused to arrest all those who violated the guidelines leading to a fight between the NRM supporters and those of the opposition NUP in places such as Bwaise.

It is not clear if he NUP supporters will be left to conduct such drives as the NRM did on Monday.

Up to 7 people appeared yesterday for nomination. However, two were dismissed. Generals, Museveni, Muntu and Tumukunde are among those who successfully went through the exercise.
