Mbidde: Why opposition should celebrate Mao and the Cooperation Agreement
Democratic Party Vice President Dennis Fred Mukasa Mbidde has said, Ugandans especially the opposition Democratic Party should celebrate and not ridicule Norbert Mao.
Mao, last month signed a cooperation agreement between the National Resistance Movement and the Democratic Party. He was later appointed to cabinet as the Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs.
However, Ugandans severally attacked Norbert Mao and the Secretary General of the Democratic Party Mr. Gerald Black Siranda for engaging in what they called the selling of the Democratic Party to President Yoweri Museveni.
However, while speaking in a discussion on his YouTube channel, the East African legislator Dennis Fred Mukasa Mbidde said, several former Democratic Party Presidents joined President Museveni as Ministers without terms of agreement or cooperation framework.
“They only joined the President who later incorporated them into the Movement system. However, President Mao first thought out and prepared an agreement that could be followed,” Mbidde said.
Mbidde also listed former DP Presidents who joined other political parties and served in other agreements with out agreements. He mentioned Dr Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere and John Ssebaana Kizito who both served with President Museveni in cabinet but without a cooperation framework.
He said Ugandans should instead celebrate the DP President for rather being thoughtful enough to engage with documentation on how the two parties can work together.
He also indicated that the party also engaged the wider electorate and not the National Executive Committee on the matter who cleared the agreement. Norbert Mao, just after the vetting process said the National Executive Committee would soon sit to scrutinize the meeting.
