Man dies from hunger, leaves two boys orphaned
Residents of kawafu cell at Abaita Ababiri, Katabi Town Council in Wakiso district have been left in shock after waking up to the death of a 41 year old man identified as Justus Sempa allegedly to hunger.
The Area LC 1 chairperson Mr Daniel Makoba said the deceased, a single father to two boys has been a cobbler in the area moving from home to home mending shoes.
“Ever since the lockdown was put in place, people were stopped from moving to other peoples residencies, he has not been able to move to people’s homes so he has not been earning money to fend for himself and his two boys” he said.
The deceased’s land lord Mr Sam Kavubu said the deceased recently lost consciousness due to starvation since he didn’t have food and was only saved by a neighbor who offered him milk which he drunk and stabilized.
Kavubu said he last checked on the deceased on Friday night as he was going to bathe and he was alive and well but was shocked when in the morning, one of the sons’s who stayed with the father went to his home and told his wife of his father’s passing.
The area councilor Mr Daniel Wadimba said it was hard to attend to deceased’s corpse since they were not sure if he had succumbed to hunger or the Covid 19 outbreak.
“Ideally we have to wait for medics from the hospital and police who we have contacted to get involved in this situation” he said.
By time of this publication, residents were still waiting for the Covid 19 task force from Entebbe hospital to respond and take the body to postmortem to assert the actual cause of death.
