“After our research, we carried out health camps in Buwaaya, Entebbe and some landing sites but we found difficulty in the availability of drugs, we received over 1,000 people requiring drugs, over 150 had dental extractions, many were found with HIV/AIDS after testing but hadn’t yet started treatment, and there were many with eye infections but we are under facilitated and call upon government to join us we reach out to the vulnerable especially at the landing sites” she noted.

Ms Ssemakula said residents at Kigungu, Kasenyi , Nakiwogo and Guuda landing sites suffer from various diseases but aren’t sensitized on the need for health checks and the NGO’s lack of facilitation or even vehicles to reach them makes the organizations efforts harder.

“We find a lot of hardship reaching those people like at landing sites, we have found that they have a number of illnesses affecting them, poor sanitation, as an organization we still find hardship reaching them due to lack of funds” she noted.

The coordinator of the medical camp Mr Kato Duncan appreciated the people they have collaborated with in the past 12 years of the NGO’s existence, he however said they faced challenges during the medical camps including getting the required relief items to give to people because as an organization, they don’t have a defined source of income.

“We want to help people in different areas but we are restricted to a small population due to lack of enabling funds, thus I call upon people and organizations willing to offer a helping hand to join us as we extend medical help, education, sensitizing women and supporting them in their businesses” he said.

Mr Kato further said the NGO has set up piggery projects for women to boost their livelihoods in Buwaaya.

“In May this year, we had a 2 day medical camp at Entebbe Changsha Model Primary School and we found the same difficulties in terms of getting medication, funds and even allowances for the health workers. We have reached out to over 2,000 people in the two health camps that included eye clinics, blood nations, dental clinics, malaria and HIV/AIDS testing, if we have more collaborators we can reach a bigger population” Kato noted.
