Leading the way: MP Enos Asiimwe leads Lyantonde in Keeping Town, Hospital clean

The International Public Health Standards stipulate that each and every person must engage in the tideous work of keeping the environment they live in clean and safe to ensure there isn’t neglected tropical and associated disease transmission.

So is what is domesticated in Uganda. However, in Lyantonde, Kabula County, the area Member of Parliament Enos Asiimwe Kinywamacunda is leading the way.

Asiimwe led a general cleaning exercise in Lyantonde town over the weekend, promoting sanitation, cleanliness ahead of the official visit of the Ugandan Prime Minister, Robina Nabbanja Musafiiri into the area.

The MP mobilized the young people of Lyantonde town council and the District at large in what is meant to raise awareness on the pivotal role of having a clean and safe environment.

Aloysious Ngabo the Councilor for Kaliro ward A/B challenged the youth to take responsibility for their communities and be part of decision-making processes, especially in environmental conservation and sanitation. “I urge the youth to take charge and be part of the solution in keeping our communities clean and conserving nature,” he said.

Enos Asiimwe, the Kabula MP who initiated the “Keep Lyantonde Town and Hospital Clean” campaign, emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining sanitation and hygiene. “We all have a role to play in keeping our town and hospital clean. We will draw a timeline for regular cleaning exercises to ensure sustainability,” he said.

He also noted that the campaign would be extended to other areas, including the Hospital which was cleaned earlier this month. “We will make cleaning a quarterly exercise to remind the community of their responsibility in maintaining cleanliness,” he added.

The cleaning exercise is a step towards promoting better sanitation and hygiene in Lyantonde District. The Prime Minister is expected in Lyantonde this week.
