Mr Nabende who made the remarks after a tree planting exercise at the school said the centennial celebrations will be held on the 21st of September with the chief guest being the Queen (Nnaabagereka) of Buganda Kingdom, Sylvia Nagginda who is also an old girl of the school.
“I urge people to get examined and also donate blood, not forgetting that this Sunday on the 8th of September we shall be having a marathon with the flag off at the school as part of the schools celebrations” he noted.
Entebbe Municipality, Division, A Chairperson, Ms Scholastica Jane Najjemba Baguma has called on residents to plant trees across the municipality in an effort to curb climate change which is devastating the country,
“This is a great achievement, it’s not easy, I would first of all thank the government of Uganda as people of Entebbe to have good schools. Of course we have been having challenges but because of the government support we are seeing a lot of improvement” she noted.
Ms Scholastica who officially launched the tree planting campaign added, “Lake Victoria school is one of our best schools, and these government schools, so many great people have gone through this school, so I call upon people from across the country to come celebrate with us as we mark the 100 years”.
The chairperson of the organizing committee Ms Proscovia Nanyonjo said the centennial celebrations are not a small feat for a school to exist thus the celebrations.
“We want people to understand why we are celebrating 100 years for a school, for those of you who don’t know, Lake Victoria is a public school under the UPE but we have a workable model which we want everybody to copy. We have a system in place where we have the PTA, the school management committee and the Alumni who are active” she noted
Ms Proscovia added, “The municipal council who are our supervisors also work with us but because of the model, the school has survived up to 100 years and when you look at the school, most people think the it’s a private school, so the model is workable”.
