Kampala Capital City Authority is considering a mass testing of Kampala dwellers against Covid 19, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has said.
Lukwago who also registered concern regarding the increasing number of Covid-19 Community cases within the Capital City has been officiating the induction where the Authority Councilors were oriented on their roles, functions, responsibilities and the City governance structure in appreciation of the new KCCA legal regime on Wednesday afternoon.
The Lord Mayor also encouraged that before the mass testing is done, voluntary testing of the Corona Virus to avoid further infections. “Such an exercise can only be pulled off by empowering the Village Health Teams. It is also important to equip the KCCA Health Centers so that they manage the rising number of community cases but there are budgetary constraints in pursuing this.” Lukwago said
He further advised the Councilors to always observe decorum in all their engagements and inspired them to think of the Alderman Title being bestowed upon them after serving diligently. Kampala has of recent registered a higher number of Covid 19 cases amongst the 2263 total confirmed cases in the country.
The increase in Kampala cases has mainly been in city malls, institutions such as media houses and government ministries, departments and agencies.
While speaking to the media on Tuesday, the Minister for health Jane Ruth Aceng said government is considering another lockdown due to the increasing number of Covid 19 cases recorded in a bid to prevent further spread.
