Katabi Town Council seeks social economic cooperation with Tooro
Katabi town council chairperson Ronald Kalema has sought indulgence of the Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, the King of Tooro on how both communities could cooperate to further the development of their areas of jurisdiction.
In an engagement held at Omukama Oyo Nyimba’s Kampala Palace on Monday afternoon, Kalema justified the need to work together as common practice world over if regions are to develop.
“History has it, that no single region in the world has ever attained sustainable development by its own. Several studies have pointed to collaboration, exchange and partnerships as being strong tools for development between areas,” Kalema says.
The town council chairperson highlighted key issues amongst which both entities could work together for development.
He says, the two areas can work together to mobilize the Batooro living in Katabi town council and Entebbe to uphold culture despite being away from the boundaries of their kingdom.
Kalema also sought to work hand in hand with the cultural institution in educating people from both areas as any institution may wish to offer scholarship to the people in their constituencies.
An exchange program, between Katabi town council and Tooro Kingdom, with the former and all its leaders seeking to visit the Kingdom’s seat in Kabalore to improve bondage amongst the two institutions and investment.
“We also seek collaboration in the Tourism and Conservation sector,” Kalema says.
Both Katabi town council and Tooro kingdom are gifted with recreation and vast tourism Potential. With Katabi being part of Uganda’s gateway, many tourists move through the town to get to Uganda’s major destinations including “Mabeere ga Nyinamwiru” in Tooro.
The cooperation according to John Ssempeebwa, the former Deputy Chief Executive of the Uganda Tourism Board would help market the vast tourism potential in both areas.
King Oyo welcomed the idea and promised further discussions between the two parties.
