Kakwenza Case: NUP SG Rubongoya, Lawyer Galisonga face arrest
The Secretary General of the National Unity Platform David Lewis Rubongoya, city lawyer Julius Galisonga and two other people who stood surety for Author Kakwenza Rukirabashiaja may be arrested if they fail to show cause why they shouldn’t, after a suspect, Kakwenza failed to appear before court to answer charges related to disturbing the peace of Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba the Commander of the Land Forces, also son to Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni.
Kakwenza was arrested in January this year, allegedly tortured by the special forces in gallons at Entebbe before being remanded to Kitalya prison on cases relating to the assasination of character of Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Upon appearing before Buganda road court, the four people acted as sureties for Mr Rukirabashaija and was granted bail. He also left his passport at court.
However, Kakwenza, through his lawyer Eron Kiiza requested court to release the accused’s passport to go abroad and get better Medicare.
However, the presiding judicial officer declined to grant the request to release the passport prompting the evacuation of Kakwenza to German for treatment without a passport.
It was later established that Rukirabashaija would not immediately return to the country while some sources say, he sought asylum and may not return to the country.
The Buganda Road court has now ordered the four people that stood sureties for Kakwenza Rukirabashaija, who are City Lawyer Julius Galisonga, Job Keija, Rubongoya David Lewis and a Kololo senior secondary teacher Ashaba Anna to show cause why they should not be arrested for the absence of the author.
If the presiding judicial officer declines arguments that Mr Rukirabashaija will return after treatment abroad, the four are nos bound to pay Ugx 10 million each or be arrested and detained.
Meanwhile, Kakwenza the accused has called out Ugandans who would help to donate Ugx 8,000 each to save his four sureties. He now needs up to 40 million shillings to save them.
