Rights Body Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda has petitioned the high court seeking the nullification of the new guidelines by the Uganda Communications Communication that direct all bloggers and online news operators to register before publishing news and information on social media and the different online sites.
Last Month, the Uganda Communications commission directed that all bloggers, before any publication is done, will have to seek the mandate of the Uganda Communications Commission.
However, the Executive Director of the Human Rights Network for Journalists Uganda Robert Ssempala says, the regulations deprive the media and individual operators of space to communicate and inform the general public of the occurrences within the country.
Ssempala who has been opening a training on Human Rights in Kalangala District said, it is important that such guidelines are annulled since they deprive people of their rights under Chapter 4 of the constitution.
Former Bujumba County MP Fred Badda who opened the training officially said government ought to respect media for they play a great role in oversight and information sharing
