Ivan Ssempijja trounces Bobi Wine’s Oguttu to win Makerere guild race
Independent candidate Ivan Ssempijja has on Friday evening trounced the National Unity Platform candidate Aaron Oguttu to win the 86th Makerere Guild Presidency.
Oguttu, who attained the NUP card after the nullification of Judith Nalukwago, another NUP candidate from the race had earlier said to be arrested.
In the just concluded guild presidency race, Oguttu got 1294 votes while Ivan Ssempijja garnered 2069 from the 18 Schools/Faculties that make up the institution.
The newly elected president of the Makerere University 86th guild is expected to select a cabinet with whom he will work to take the Makerere University Guild Council forward.
Ssempijja will succeed Julius Kateregga who was recently elected Lord Councilor representing the University at the Kampala Capital City Authority.
He is expected to handle all student related issues including the increase in tuition, the unfair dismissal of students from the University among others.
