Inside Uganda’s best Health Sciences institution
Health Sciences and Nursing in particular, is the glue that holds a patient’s health care journey together. Across the entire patient experience, and wherever there is someone in need of care, nurses work tirelessly to identify and protect the needs of the individual.
Beyond the time-honored reputation for compassion and dedication lies a highly specialized profession, which is constantly evolving to address the needs of society. From ensuring the most accurate diagnoses to the ongoing education of the public about critical health issues; nurses are indispensable in safeguarding public health.
It is the art and a science; a heart and a mind. At its heart, lies a fundamental respect for human dignity and an intuition for a patient’s needs. This is supported by the mind, in the form of rigorous core learning. Due to the vast range of specialisms and complex skills in the nursing profession, each nurse will have specific strengths, passions, and expertise.
Responsibilities can range from making acute treatment decisions to providing inoculations in schools. The key unifying characteristic in every role is the skill and drive that it takes to be a health worker, particularly, a nurse.
Through long-term monitoring of patients’ behavior and knowledge-based expertise, health workers are best placed to take an all-encompassing view of a patient’s wellbeing and thus deserve the best training in human behavior and how to administer such treatment from, public health, diagnosis and medicinal administration.

Becoming a medical professional requires honesty patience and diligence for one to triumph and, this can be gotten from a highly established institution with capacity to break barriers to ensure health service delivery is instilled in all professionals.
At St Francis School of Health Sciences, Uganda has had an opportunity to receive professionals with vast experience and knowledge to work upon all the country’s public.
With three major schools of Nursing and Midwifery, Allied Health Sciences and the school of management and applied health sciences, the health training institution is offering Diplomas and Certificates has produced children from across the country to instigate and apply better skills in Uganda’s Hospitals and health centers.
With courses such as clinical medicine, pharmacy, medical laboratory, nursing and midwifery, among others, the institution is fully licensed with courses under the allied health professionals’ council, Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council and UBTEB, Uganda Management School.
The institution which has produced a number of health workers who started off, establishing some of Uganda’s major health facilities while others work in key government institutions.
“For the facilities at the school give you an opportunity to instill thoughtful education and hands on services to the country. Our goal is to have use the advanced laboratories and other facilities to offer what is best to this country.” Says Bbosa Kiwanuka Peter, the College Rector.
Currently, the College is instituting a Hospital within its prescripts to not only treat, but also train some of its students. The Hospital is said to be one institution that will further hands on experience to the trainees prior to getting letters of opportunity.
The College also has several hospital placements for its trainees including Lugazi, Kiryandongo General Hospitals, Jinja, Mbale Regional Referrals, Bugiri, Butabika, Mukono General Hospitals and the Kayunga Regional Referral Hospital.
