GPS and Phone tracking evidence implicates Kitata in the murder of Case Clinic Accountant Ekalunga
The Global Positioning System(GPS) and phone tracking analysis evidence presented to the High Court in Entebbe presided over by Justice Yasin Nyanzi on Thursday implicates notorious former BodaBoda 2010 Patron Abdullah Kitata and others in the murder of Case Clinic’s Accountant Francis Ekalunga in 2018.
The evidence and testimony submitted by Frank Nyakairu who is a Principal Investigator at the Ministry of Defence (MOD&VA) and at the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI).
Nyakairu is an Expert in phone tracking, imaging analysis and led the investigations following the disappearance of Ekalunga on the fateful evening of 2nd January 2018.
That evening Nyakairu recounts receiving a call from Case Clinic’s Chief Executive Officer(CEO) Dr Abdul Ssebale raising a concern that their accountant Ekalunga had gone missing with money amounting to UGX 40 million and wanted to meet.
Ekalunga’s phone numbers had been switched off , and using the Directorate of Technical Intelligence GPS, Nyakairu was able to ascertain that the phones were switched off between the perimeters of Nakasero and Accacia Avenue at 11:47 and 12:01 which coincides with the time he left the hospital according to CCTV footage.
In the early hours of the morning of 3rd January 2018, a body was discovered at a roadside in Kajjansi by civilians, the body had been burnt beyond recognizable shape and dumped by the then new Entebbe Express Highway.
According to those that worked with the deceased at Case Clinic and experts from Mulago and Police, it was confirmed to be Francis Ekalunga’s body.
“A Case was opened at Kajjansi under CRB09/2018 to help track and draw phone records, we were able to pull call records of over 200 workers of Case Hospital with critical emphasis on casual laborers such as cleaners and morgue attendants” Nyakairu said
In the meantime CCTV footage had already implicated a morgue attendant who was seen to be making calls near the hospital gate as Ekalunga drove out, he was later set free after making a groundbreaking finding in the phone records.
A driver at the hospital, a one Mawa Muzamiru’s handset records placed him at the accacia mall between midday and Kajjansi on the 2nd of January 2018, the day Ekalunga was kidnapped and killed.
“ We noticed some unusual communication activity as per Mawa’s phone records of 0755151500 pre and post the disappearance of the deceseased. He had been in constant communication with 4 numbers between 1st and 2nd of January” Nyakairu stated.
“With a court order we were able to draw records for those particular numbers belonging to Musa Ssewankambo,Ashraf Muwanguzi,Resty Nalunga and Kiwalabye Huzairu” he added
With that information they were able to establish a communication matrix that plants the 3 of the remanded 4, that included Mawa Muzamiru who has since pleaded guilty and awaits a sentence, Yiga Deo who was the chairperson of the Infamous BodaBoda 2010 Natete Branch and Abdullah Kitata’s brother and chairperson of the BodaBoda 2010 Busega branch Huzairu Kiwalabye.
Kiwalabye was the first to be arrested on the 19th of January that year in a joint operation by the CMI, Military Police and the Uganda Police force amid resistance from BodaBoda 2010 goons. And the rest captured in the subsequent days including Abdullah Kitata who was later acquitted by the Military Court Martial on charges of illegal possession of firearms.
Surprisingly the analysis may exonerate the 4th inmate and Mawa’s lover Resty Nalunga who was planted to steak out at the hospital between 8am and 12pm. According to Nyakairu, Nalunga was manipulated by her lover Mawa to do the steak out for him.
Nalunga was told that Ekalunga was smuggling hospital drugs and they intended to arrest him once he got out of the hospital. She was in the hospital parking from 8am till midday.
She took a different route after 12pm to her in Salama which is different to that of the purported killers that all maintained a similar route from Accacia to Kisugu through Kansanga, Munyonyo, Kagwa Tombs, Kiruddu Hospital, Sseguku and finally Kajjansi.
However other suspects who are entangled in the communication web are still at large and are all members of the notorious and infamous BodaBoda 2010 Association including Patron Abdullah Kitata; Branch chairpersons Geoffrey Bukenya, Musa Ssewankambo, Abdul Mulwana of Wakaliga,Najjanankumbi and Makindye respectively.
The trio is on trial for murder, theft of about UGX 40million and a motor vehicle that belonged to the deceased, registration number UAW 899U that had been changed to UAT 764L and sold to Congolese internationals but was later retrieved.
