Gen Dick Olum clarifies on ADF infiltration in Rwenzori region
The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Mountain Division Commander Major General Dick Olum has assured all residents of Rwenzori region of security and stability of the region. This was during the pipping ceremony of Uganda Police Force officers of Rwenzori West where he was as the Chief Guest at the function held at the District Police Headquarters, Kabarole.
Maj Gen Olum dispelled rumours that the districts in Rwenzori region had been infiltrated by Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels which had caused panic that led to the Kyenjojo Resident District Commissioner ordering the closure of night clubs and bars.
“Let mzee’s Bazukulu enjoy themselves, the UPDF, the police, working with other security agencies is here to protect you. Disregard the rumours, though you must remain vigilant,” said Maj Gen Olum.
Maj Gen Olum warned security personnel who move around with guns in civilian clothes to reconsider their act as such acts help fuel rumours and cause fear in the wanainchi. He added that when people see such especially at night, rumours start circulating.
To the promoted police officers, Maj Gen Olum urged them to work even harder for the trust entrusted in them. “You were not promoted because of your tribe, or colour. You were promoted because of hard work and discipline. Promotion means service, work even harder. Let’s work together to protect the people.”
The RCC Fort Portal City, Mrs Catherine Tumwine thanked Maj Gen Olum for his commitment towards the people of Rwenzori and warned those misusing social media to cause fear amongst the Wananchi.
The RPC Rwenzori west ACP Norman Musinga thanked Gen Olum for always being present whenever they call upon him. He pledged continued cooperation.
265 officers from Rwenzori West region were elevated to different ranks.
Others present were the Bishop of Rwenzori Diocese, Members of Parliament, LCV Chairpersons, RDCs and other Local Government Leaders.
