The Magistrates court in Kalangala has granted bail to four National Unity Platform supporters who had on Friday last week been arrested from Nkose Island in Mazinga Sub County.
The four who include Gerald Zinga, Sunday Kamara, Steven Buchuru and Ahmed Kimuli are accused of battering an NRM supporter at Nkose during a thanks giving ceremony organised by Kyamuswa county member of Parliament Carol Nanyondo.
The supporters had been arrested on the orders of the Kalangala Resident District Commissioner Daniel Kikoola and slept at Kalangala Police for four days.
The Kalangala Grade 1 magistrate Paul Owino Absalom granted a cash bail of Ugx 300,000 to each of the accused and each surety, led by Gerald Kalyango, the area councillor Ugx 500,000 non cash.
The four are expected to return to court on October 20th for case hearing.
Cyrus Kambugu, the National unity Platform Coordinator for Kyamuswa says there needs to be levelled ground for all candidates within the area to freely contest and express views for election in February 2021.
