Highly placed sources within the FDC Party head quarters in Najjanankumbi, a Kampala suburb revealed that Kampala Lord Mayor is expected to pick FDC Party ticket on Tuesday this week in preparation for his Presidential bid.
Lukwago according to sources is expected to be the FDC Presidential candidate in the forthcoming 2021 elections.
Lukwago, who has been a Democratic Party stalwart, fell out with the City House led administration in 2010 before contesting for the Lord Mayoral seat. He has often times defied the party positions for his long time ally, Kizza Besigye, who led FDC from inception, before leaving the seat for Gen Mugisha Muntu.
Sources also indicate that the decision for Lukwago to lead the party through the Presidential polls was reached after a host of meetings held by the People’s government leadership led by Dr Warren Kizza Besigye, the FDC three time Presidential Aspirant.
Lukwago has held several Positions, as a Democratic Party leader including acting as the party legal advisor before being ousted by the current DP Vice President Dennis Fred Mukasa Mbidde. He was the Kampala Central MP before contesting for the Lord Mayoral seat in 2011.
He has severally overwhelmingly won the Lord Mayoral elections with a more than 68% margin.
While appearing on the NBS Morning Breeze on Monday morning, former Presidential Candidate Kizza Besigye told viewers that he will abide but his party position soon and that he would not neglect a struggle he has involved himself in ever since his youthful stage.
