Entebbe Taxi operators to resume operations in new Kitooro Taxi Park
The Entebbe Stages Conductors and Drivers Association (ESCADA) led by their chairperson Mr Abiola Walakira have expressed gratitude towards government and Entebbe municipal council’s completion and set reopening of the new Kitooro taxi park which has enabled them to resume operations in an orderly way.
“We are going to resume operations for our clients in a good way, we have educated our drivers and conductors on customer care as they transport them along the way to and from Kampala city. We have increased our security in the taxis operating along the route, our cars are going to have a hotline which passengers can use to call our offices in case they are insulted or assaulted by any driver or conductor” he said.
Mr Abiola who was addressing media on Monday, said part of the new changes will include the drivers dressing in cream uniforms with the ESCADA badges imprinted on them.
“I urge the people of Entebbe to use this park, they have built it with shops inside which will mean development for our people and not board vehicles from outside the park, we have returned clean both physically and mentally” he said.
Mr Abiola urged the taxi touts who have been operating at the Entebbe Bus park to join them and work together.
The ESCADA vice chairperson Kityamuwesi Yasin called on all passengers to return to the park and board them from Kitooro to Kampala and other parts along the Kampala – Entebbe Route.
“We have been sensitised with a transportation system copied from South Africa which is going to quicken the taxi movements, passengers who will be travelling directly to Kampala using the Expressway will be paying Shs 5,000 while those traveling on the old route will have varying prices depending on where they end” he noted.
Ms Bagarukayu Alice Mbabazi expressed excitement at the provision of direct taxis from Kitooro Taxi Park to Kampala City using the expressway and not the old route from Entebbe, Mpala to Kajjansi and Kibuye before arriving in town.
“These drones are fast, the drivers are smart and conductors have good customer care, so we hope all for the best” she noted.
