Fire has gutted Secret Guest House in Banga-Nakiwogo, Entebbe Municipality on Sunday morning leaving property worth millions of shillings in ashes.
After the fire, which started around 10:30 am early Sunday and raged until it was put out by 4pm, little remained of the establishment, owing to the delays by the fire rescue team and the guest house proprietors denying access to the first responders.
According to Entebbe Sub District RDC, Hajji Noor Njuki Mbabali, the fire is suspected to have broken out from the kitchen after a gas cylinder went off and spreading to the entire establishment.
“I applaud the commitment of the different fire rescue operative to help put out the fire, but our people need to be vigilant with gas cylinders, they need to keep them outside….but I will await the final police report after the investigation is finished.” Hajji Mbabali said
The village Chairperson Fred Kayigwa says that the spreading of the fire was bound to happen since 90% of the establishment is grass thatched and being a dry season, the fire was hard to control.
However the actual cause of the fire is yet to be established in a conclusive police report. But according to eyewitnesses say the fire sprung from the kitchen.
