Entebbe police is holding a one Geoffrey Wandera, a 49 years old fisherman, resident of Abaita Ababiri Katabi Town Council for allegedly stealing from a Stanbic ATM in Entebbe town.
It is alleged that on the 28th day of September, Wandera went to Stanbic bank Entebbe branch in pretence of helping a one Nakawunde of Lugonjo to withdraw money.
He instead swapped with a fake ATM card which was later swallowed, in the process the security guards acted immediately and arrested him.
Upon his arrest, the security officers discovered that he had seven other Automated Teller Machine cards of different banks.
Police flying squad participated in interrogation and he confessed committing the crime.
He also mentioned other colleagues including a one Steven of Kyengera, Ajuna in Fort Portal, Henry in Mbarara, among others.
He also claims that he buys the fake cards from a street in Kisenyi, a Kampala suburb and he operates in areas of Gulu, Jinja, Fort Portal, Mbarara and Mbale.
The officer in charge of criminal investigations at Entebbe central police station Herbert Rugubwa Rugyendo cautioned residents to remain alert as many of the thug take advantage of people’s ignorance to steal money from them.
