The Electoral Commission in Entebbe, on Monday received an overwhelming number of candidates for nomination; a day that was designated for all contenders from Katabi Town Council including Local Council 3 chairpersons and Councilors.
At as early as 7 am, candidates had already started flocking the Electoral Commission Offices in Kawuku.
The anti-COVID-19 regulations such as hand washing and physical distancing were definitely unachievable due to the big numbers.
Over 700 contenders with their proposers turned up for the verification and nomination process across different parties, the exersice would go on till 11 pm.
Eight candidates presented their credentials for the Katabi Mayoral slot with a one Haruna being dropped from the position citing age requirements.
Leaving Incumbent and National Unity Platform’s (NUP) Ronald Kalema, Democratic party’s Robert Mukasa,NRM’s Tom Byarugaba, Forum for Democratic Change’s Gerald Musoke and others in this tightly contested race.
