The Kampala Metropolitan Deputy police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire has revealed that a drunken driver who knocked dead a police constable on Sunday will be arraigned before the courts of law following after police concludes it’s investigations on various offences.
In a statement released on Monday, Owoyesigyire said Police at Kabalagala yesterday (20/06/2021) registered a fatal accident at around 1825 hours.
It is alleged that Police Constable Number 48518 Bosco Owili attached to Field Force Unit Kabalagala Police Station while on his lawful duty was knocked dead by a speeding motorist.
The vehicle driver has been identified as Haman Rujjumba, who was driving a BMW registration number UAP 122Z, grey in colour, has been arrested on a range of offences.
PC Owili was riding a motorcycle registration number UP 7965 Yamaha blue in colour on Ggaba Road near Kampala International University (KIU), Kansanga, when he was knocked by a reckless speeding driver.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver dragged the officer under his car for ten metres from the first contact.
The driver escaped soon after the accident.
A team of police officers all led by Kabalagala Police Station Acting Commander responded to the scene where they identified deceased police officer’s body, police motorcycle, a SMG AK47 and a damaged magazine. The body was conveyed to the city mortuary for a postmortem. The recovered equipment including the suspect’s vehicle were later exhibited awaiting inspection .
The police mounted a manhunt for the suspect, who was found hiding at Rock Clinic in Church Zone, a stone throw away from the crime scene, where he was arrested.
Bouncers of Pyramid Bar had hidden him there.
The investigations has revealed that the same driver almost knocked our officers at the check point as he drove passed them before the fatal incident.
The suspect was subjected to a breathalyser test and he found to have taken alcohol above the lawful limit.
