Police has arrested some of its men in uniform for allegedly failing to provide security to St Peter’s Church Ndeeba, leading to its demolition.
The country, on Monday morning woke up to news of the demolition of the church by suspected bailiffs, disregarding the government directives that stopped all evictions during the COVID 19 period.
The arrested officers include, SP Epedu David the DPC Katwe, ASP Mugira Yeko Kato, the Officer in Charge of Ndeeba Police Station and the Field Force Unit (FFU) Commander KMP/South Region, ASP Isabirye Kaloli and are being charged with neglect of duty.
According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Katwe Police Station got information of the demolition at 0100 hours and a team was dispatched to the scene. No security organ had been informed about the demolition.
“Our officers found people demolishing the said church and arrested 11 suspects.” Onyango said in a press statement issued on Monday afternoon.
The arrested suspects include; Kawooya Mohammad, Bbosa Muniru, Kiberu Amza, Mutebi Abbasi, Bulega Ali, Matovu Simon, Kalika Ali, Mujuzi Andrew, Ssekito Badru, Isirinya John and Maruti Bashir and are currently detained at Katwe Police Station to help with investigations.
“The suspects are charged with malicious damage to properties.” He added.
Also, Police impounded two motor vehicles that was recovered from the scene with metals, and an excavator.
We have also arrested Police Officers who were supposed to provide security to Church properties but failed to do so.
