Lawyer Stephen Ssekigozi is the Democratic Party(DP) flag bearer for the Buusiro South Member of Parliament seat in the forthcoming 2021 general elections after clinching a landslide majority vote in the Party primaries on thursday.
Ssekigozi garnered 61 votes out of the possible 73 votes, winning at 84%, followed by Simon Peter Kiweesi and JohnPaul Muyanda who scored 5 votes each, Ronald Nsubuga came third with only 2 votes and Erias Kiggundu securing no vote.
City Lawyer Ssekigozi’s return to his mother party DP comes under scrutiny after he was beaten to the National Unity Platform(NUP) party ticket by Charles Matovu who emerged as favorite for the Kamwokya based Electoral Management Committee.
In the Busiro South race, lies incumbent and NRM’s Simon Peter Sematimba who had to go through a series of petitions from his opponets and party carders on grounds of doctoring results.
Other candidates include Independents Paul Owor and Charles Lwanga and NUP’s Charles Matovu.
Stephen Ssekigozi came second in 2016 to Simon Peter Ssematimba, He is a son to the late Patrick Kiwanuka Musisi who once represented the same constituency and a brother to fomer Busiro South legislator Joseph Balikudembe.
