Community Rejects Reintegration of Recovered COVID19 Victim

The Community at Senero Landing Site, Mugoye Sub County in Kalangala District have rejected a move by the Ministry of Health to reintegrate Banya Lwanga, a resident of Senero Landing site into the community.

The rejection follows successful treatment at Entebbe Grade B hospital in Wakiso.

Banya was taken to the Facility from Kalangala on the 27th of March after testing positive of the Corona Virus Disease.

He had returned to the Country on March 12, settled in Kalangala where he operates a Construction Company and owns a Palm Oil Farm.

However, the Victim on return with Ministry of health officials on Tuesday evening was received by the District Task Force led by the RDC Daniel Kikoola.

He was later taken to Senero Landing Site where he lives.

As a meeting with the dwellers ensured, the fishermen asked Banya to explain whether he was treated with drugs and not fruits and health living foods.

He however refused to speak when Journalists are present which residents denied prompting a protest.

“Why does he want Cameras off? Is it because he wants to lie to the society?” A fisherman asked

The officials including the District Chairperson Willy Lugoloobi tried to quell the situation by all efforts fell on deaf ears.

He was later taken to Kalangala Town where he is now living as a reintegration process led by the District Health Educator Sarah Subo is being handled.

Banya who was returning from the United States through Dubai – UAE on March 12th, tested Positive of the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID 19), he was taken for treatment in Kampala.

More than 165 first contacts of Banya were put under an Institutional and Self Quarantine Centers for monitoring to avoid the further spread of the Disease.

The country currently has registered 58 COVID 19 patients most off whom have reportedly recovered.
