Busega-Mpigi Expressway Road Project extends to 43% completion
The Busega-Mpigi Expressway is more than just a road but it’s a game-changer for Uganda’s economy
According to the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), the Expressway will ease Traffic Congestion by easing traffic flow between Kampala & Mpigi. The expressway is expected to alleviate congestion within Kampala where upcountry roads converge.
Estimates suggest that over 70% of Uganda’s motor vehicles contribute to the congestion within Kampala and its surrounding areas.
The road will aid Regional Connectivity. As part of the Northern Corridor, the Expressway will facilitate smoother transportation of goods between Mombasa Port & the neighbouring countries of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda & Burundi further enhancing regional trade.
Currently, all the bridges are above the foundation level and the overall project progress is at 43% completion.
Ongoing works include swamp treatment works, earthworks & bridge superstructure construction. The 4- lane dual carriageway expressway is under construction by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) in joint venture with China Railway 19th Bureau Group (U) Ltd with financing from the African Development Bank Group.
